Medieval Castle Game!

Having briefly studied Game Development at University in Wrexham, Emrys was keen to further develop his skills in 3D modelling and game development.

Emrys quickly took to the Silo 2, 3D modelling app, rapidly developing a range of weapons to use in a Medieval Castle Game he was planning to make.

This process required Emrys to sketch out concept art of the weapons, scan them and they place them on the appropriate plane within Silo 2. Emrys then used standard box / poly modelling techniques and sub-division to model the weapons. When the basic 3D form was completed, he then began working on the texture maps and UV mapping co-ordnates to give the weapons the look he wanted.

He exported the weapon models into Cheetah 3D for some additional texturing work and then from Cheetah 3D into Unity3D as FBX files.

Emrys then began building floorpans for a castle followed by Castle walls, Towers and a Gatehouse. He began developing a terrain with trees, foliage, rivers, swamps and small villages to construct his medieval world within.

After exploring the online Asset Store built into Unity3D, Emrys downloaded some skeleton characters that would become one of the enemy characters in the game.

Alongside this, Emrys also began work on animating the movement of the skeletons to adapt them for the different weapons he’d designed as well as animating the weapons for the main character to use in the game.

He developed a basic AI for some of the characters in the game so that they would turn to face the player when the player was within and certain distance of them and begin to move towards and then attack when close enough.

He also programmed a health and stamina system and a weapon control system for the player to be able to attack with hand weapons and magic spells that he’d built using particle systems.

Storm the Castle

Defeat the Skeletons and Storm the Castle!

(This is a Early Beta of the Game – there are many missing elements and bugs during this stage of development)
